Fiefdoms

These sculptural drawings, as I like to call them were done as part of a project called '100 Drawings.' I did indeed make 100 of them in various sizes and shapes. This is just a few of them that make up part of my kingdom.

Land Art

I recently took a class exploring Land and Environmental Art and was so inspired by the work done using materials found in wild places. This is a composition I arranged on the beach while walking on Chestermans Bay in Tofino, BC. It is really one of the most beautiful spots on the island and it's wide open spaces have a powerful affect on the psyche.

Marking Time

I often post my photography on various social media sites but as it's time to update to my blog, I thought I'd add some here as well. While it may be morbid to take pictures of dead things in a way it is also exactly why we are all so snap-happy - to stop time. These things in front of the lens are transient and one day the photo may be the only physical evidence of their (our) existence.

Been A Long, Long Time

It's been awhile but here's some work I've been doing recently. This is part of a sculpture I'm working on. It's comprised of the ordinary detritus of my life that I am taking apart and rebuilding to create a new viewpoint.

Cut Paper

This is a process I dearly love. To cut or not to cut! Like a surgeon but better.

Procrastination, The Art of

Wow, a whole year since my first post. This is a new personal best I think.

I have been busy and it has been related to art and the creative process, so it's not a complete loss. And now that a few things have finished I'll be able to do some more actual painting and then some writing about it. I have been doing part time studies at the Vancouver Island School of Art and that has been amazing. I have learned so much! I've made sculptures, videos, taken tons of photos, and learned alot about the art made in the last 150 years - phew!

This is one of the sculpture projects I did; it is built out of wooden matchsticks and then lit on fire. A great exercise in creating something without getting too attached to it.
